As a death doula, I work alongside individuals and families during their hardest seasons of life — before, during, and after a loss. Where medicine and legal expertise end, I begin.
Hey, Lauren here...
I'm so sorry. Grief and sleeplessness are the worst combination — and I want you to know you're not alone in this.
When I was deep in my own grief, the nights felt endless. I'd cycle through anger, guilt, sadness, anxiety — sometimes all in one hour. It's disorienting in a way that's hard to describe to anyone who hasn't been there. But you know.
There's no right way to do this. However you're feeling right now is okay. Give yourself permission to just... be in it.
Tonight, try to be gentle with yourself. Take a few slow, deep breaths. Read something if it helps. Journal if it feels right. And when you're ready, set the phone down and let your mind rest.
The sharpness of this pain will soften over time — I promise it will. You're stronger than you realize right now.
Holding you close,
Lauren
